Altona
Overview
This spacious but tired home was in need of some TLC.With large rooms and oodles of potential a complete transformation took place. We were asked to design a kitchen, laundry, entertainment unit, an ensuite and a main bathroom for the children to use.New flooring, paint, window treatments and door furniture throughout complement the stylish renovation.
Kitchen
For this client we created a kitchen that is elegant and contemporary, beautified by customised surfaces. Proportion and functionality were carefully considered to refine the design and maximise simplicity and style.
The brief was simple ‘we want something with a wow factor’. This design had to be impressive and functional. It needed to service the needs of a family of 5 during the day and transform into a sophisticated entertaining area in the evening.
Materials and finishes were selected with the whole family in mind. Fingerprint free surfaces that look stunning and are easy to clean and dark tactile timber veneers were selected for the cabinetry. The overhead cabinets open electronically with the touch of a finger and close magically. Inside the cabinets LED lighting highlights the items within. Mirrored LED lit kickers give the illusion that the cabinetry is floating as they reflect the floor.
The clients elected to use Miele appliances throughout including a MasterCool fridge, steam oven, warming drawer and induction cooktop. A Zip tap in the island ensures there is a permanent supply of boiling, chilled and sparkling water.
Ensuite
We were asked to design 2 bathrooms; an ensuite and a main bathroom for the children to use. The ensuite provided a few challenges with wide floor to ceiling windows on two walls. The shower was small and the vanity needed more storage and benchspace.
We adjusted the layout of the bathroom creating a new fully tiled walk in shower with a frameless shower screen. The screen is created from a single sheet of toughened glass that is both beautiful and functional. The designer black Eccentric shower and progressive mixers both from Rogerseller provide a stylish shower experience which is framed with grey feature penny mosaic tiles. A simple Eccentric hand shower offers hair washing and cleaning flexibility.
The black rimless wall hung toilet, also from Rogerseller is located in a small adjacent room and features the same penny mosaics and a black push button plate with matching roll holder.
Inspired by an image the client fell in love with we designed a vanity for two basins with a thick porcelain stone top and frame. The vanity defies gravity by floating above the ground weightlessly. Eccentric progressive tapware matches that in the shower. The custom mirrors reflect the shape of the basins and are back lit with LED’s providing stunning task lighting.
Bathroom
The bathroom finishes and fixtures reflect those in the ensuite – black Eccentric tapware and showers feature from Rogerseller and a hand made stone freestanding bath makes a beautiful statement piece offering sublime relaxation and indulgence.
Cleverly situated niches with concealed LED lighting provide well considered storage just where it is needed.
A frameless shower screen, this time with a door to contain the children’s splashes, completes this breathtaking main bathroom. Stunning enough to show off to guests and practical for the children, this bathroom ticks all the boxes.
